This programme teaches the learner how to use mathematics in order to manage personal budgets, and how to analyse various financial transactions. The learner will also be introduced to the notion of compound interest and how it is applied in different situations. Furthermore, the learner will understand how to analyse information from the media, in order to increase knowledge around the business industry and the business environment.

The programme content is set around the following outcomes:

  • Use mathematics to plan and control personal and/or household budgets and income and expenditure.
  • Use simple and compound interest to make sense of and define a variety of situations including investments, stokvels, inflation, appreciation and depreciation.
  • Investigate various aspects of financial transactions including costs, prices, revenue, cost price, selling price, loss and profit.
  • Analysing articles and reports from current print and electronic media relating to a specific business sector or industry.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the latest innovations and developments in technology that could impact on a specific business sector or industry.
  • Analysing proposed business or industrial developments that could impact on the physical environment.
  • Analyse issues in the media relating to labour that could impact on a business sector or industry.
  • Analyse proposed business or industrial development that could impact on the physical environment.
